Three weeks down.
After two extremely overwhelming weeks of school this last week has given me a bit of time to step back. We did have a parent open house Wednesday and core day Thursday, which included 4 hours of meetings, but I finally felt in the swing of things academically in the classroom. I'm sure there will be days, weeks, and months of regression, but it felt comforting to feel even adequate as a teacher for a change.
Besides seeing the typical craziness during my daily bike commute: see German Shephard on a motor scooter, it was a bit surreal to be in a region where actual protests and attacks against America(ns) were taking place. People here have been very welcoming and genuinly hospitable. There have been protests in Casablanca but nothing thus far in Rabat. Hearing about the American school in Tunis being attacked today was a bit of a shock to the senses but it doesn't feel real even with the close proximity. I'm sitting here on my beach front patio, drinking a beer and listening to the waves crash and life is good.
Off to Assilah in the morning with Lindsay and Annie.
